MISSION

Founded in 1993 by a small group of gay and lesbian activists, artists and business professionals, the Equality Project (501c3) is a consumer, employee and investor advocacy coalition working to support and monitor workplace awareness and adoption of the progressive policies expressed in the Equality Principles as endorsed by leading LGBT organizations.


RECENT ACCOMPLISHMENTS

> Securing endorsement of the Equality Principles by every LGBT advocacy organization in the United States> Securing endorsement of the Equality Principles by National Stonewall Democrats> Securing unanimous HRC Business Council board member endorsement for linking HRC1s Corporate Equality Index survey of Fortune 500 companies to the Equality Project1s community-endorsed Equality Principles benchmark

> Winning specific workplace policy protections for LGBT employees at Kaiser Permanente, Verizon, JC Penney, Home Depot, Yellow Cab Cooperative, Cracker Barrel Old Country Stores, General Electric, Delta Airlines, Toys R Us, Cerner Corporation and dozens of others in association with New York City Controller's Office and numerous pension fund boards, financial advocacy representatives, brokerage firms and socially-oriented institutional investors

> Winning a long shareholder advocacy campaign in conjunction with the City of New York eventually overturning a punitive Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) policy relating to how 3ordinary business2 is deemed relevant or not relevant to a publicly-held company1s policy and administration of sexual orientation and gender identity workplace protection

> Strategic program activities in partnership with Human Rights Campaign WorkNet and Business Council, and National Gay and Lesbian Task Force persuading dozens of Fortune 500 corporations to implement and abide by written nondiscrimination policy statements on sexual orientation and gender identity in accordance with the Equality Principles.

> Mobilizing and winning sustained investment community support for shareholder proposals with companies that refuse to dialogue or engage LGBT advocacy leaders efforts to communicate the importance of extending progressive workplace policy protections.
